OpenAI has announced that users of ChatGPT’s free tier can now generate up to two images per day using its DALL-E 3 model. Previously, this feature was exclusive to ChatGPT Plus subscribers when DALL-E 3 launched in September.
One of the standout features of DALL-E 3 is its integration with ChatGPT, allowing the chatbot to craft detailed prompts for image generation. This makes it easier for users to create specific images without needing to write complex prompts themselves. For example, during a demo, ChatGPT helped generate a logo for a ramen restaurant in the mountains by creating a detailed prompt, which DALL-E 3 then used to produce four different design options.
While OpenAI has stated that this image generation capability is being gradually rolled out, many users may already have access. For instance, I was able to create two images using the ChatGPT Mac app before receiving a notification that I had reached my daily limit.
This update is part of a busy news day for OpenAI, which also included the release of a safety assessment for its GPT-4 model, the appointment of a new board member, and a letter from Congressional Democrats seeking clarification on the company’s safety protocols.
